RESURGENCE

In this series created while in residence at Joan Mitchell Foundation Pippin bears witness to the improbable ways that nature reasserts and rebounds. The Bald Eagle is perhaps Southern Louisiana's greatest recent example recovering from 4 nesting pairs in the 1960’s to currently more than 350 nesting pairs in Southern Louisiana alone.

Of the five nests she watched, only one of them remains in the wake of Ida.

The Rookery

Reflecting on predicted bird declines of up to 50% for several of these bird species, this show brings into focus the precious and precarious nature of these Louisiana residents.

Encaustic

"Nightfall" is part of a 4 piece series exploring the form of the Louisiana Iris. Inspired by Monet's series of the Rouen Cathedral, this series uses the effects of light, or in "Nightfall'" the absence of, to capture the emotional feel of the swamp at different times of the day.
