Starlings I, II, III, IIII
Starlings, introduced between 1890 and 1891, were brought to the states by a Shakespeare fanatic who wanted the United States to be populated by every bird that Shakespeare mentioned in his plays. Despite the European starling’s insignificant role in only one of Shakespeare’s plays, the bird once introduced seized a prominent place in American life. Quickly growing in numbers these Starlings multiplied from a mere 100 to more than 200 million today.
